Batman: Arkham City- Open World Games
Whether you are a casual fan or a hardcore geek, most people adore superheroes, and this 2011 game is a great pick to play if you want to feel like one. Developed by Rocksteady Studios and WB Games Montréal, Batman: Arkham City, or Arkham City for short, is the second installment of the all-time classic Batman: Arkham series. It also serves as a sequel to the 2009 Batman: Arkham Asylum. And as its name implies, you get to play as the Caped Crusader himself.
You start as Bruce Wayne, protesting against the establishment of Arkham City – a prison located in Gotham City where prisoners from Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison were relocated. During a press, armed men led by Dr. Hugo Strange abduct and throw you in Arkham City. You will then suit up as Batman to stop Protocol 10 – Strange’s evil plan. Aside from Strange, you will also face off against other members of the Caped Crusader’s rogues’ gallery and even make unlikely alliances with some of them.
In terms of gameplay, Arkham City encourages you to be as stealthy as you can. And if you have to face enemies head-on, the game challenges your focus and reaction time as you defeat your enemies and dodge their attacks. Not to mention, Arkham City will test your wit as each villain will require a different mechanic to defeat them. You also get to unlock handy gadgets and upgrades as you progress the story and level up. Middle-earth: Shadow of War- Open World Games
If you want an open-world game that is just as rich in action as it is in the story, then you might want to give the Middle-earth game series a look. The series is set on J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, and it follows the story of Talion, the Captain of the rangers of Gondor, and Celebrimbor, an Elven wraith.
Middle-earth has two installments: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. The former, released in 2014, tells the origins of Talion when he cannot die after being killed by Sauron’s men. He is then bound to Celebrimbor’s wraith as a Gravewalker who walks the realm of the living and the dead.
Meanwhile, its 2017 sequel, Shadow of War, follows the duo’s story as they made a new weapon to defeat Sauron. They then lose it to Shelob, an ally of Sauron. And after regaining it, Talion and Celebrimbor raised an army of orcs called Uruk-hai as they did in Shadow of Mordor. However, Shadow of War features trolls or Ologs that you can control or recruit. And as Talion, you can also dominate other creatures such as Caragors, Graugs, and Dragons as you progress the story and your skills.
Aside from defeating Sauron and his forces, Shadow of War also has additional questlines and challenges that offer excellent storytelling. These include helping human survivors escape Mordor and stopping a cult from reviving an ancient evil slumbering beneath the lands. With such a story inspired by one of the most iconic works of literature, you can enjoy Shadow of War even if you are not a hardcore geek in Middle-earth.

Bethesda Softworks is one of the most well-known game publishers globally. Some favorites among the gaming community include The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Dishonored, and Wolfenstein. Fallout is also one of their most well-known games as it lets the player traverse dystopian wastelands after a nuclear war in each installment. And one favorite among the gaming community is Fallout 4.
This 2015 game is set in Boston and some areas of New England in 2287 known as The Commonwealth. You play as the sole survivor of Vault 111 as you search for your son after he was kidnapped during a cryogenic sleep. While searching the barren wastelands, you will encounter non-playable characters who can serve as your companions. They include Dogmeat – a loyal German Shepherd, Codsworth – your robot butler before the nuclear fallout, Strong – a super mutant, Cait – a cage fighter, and many more.
You will also encounter four factions, and each of them has its plans for The Commonwealth. The Minutemen aim to help survivors in need, while the Brotherhood of Steel wants to eradicate every mutated non-human organism in The Commonwealth. Meanwhile, The Institute resorts to immoral means for a better future of The Commonwealth, while the Railroad aids rogue androids known as synths. The Nuka-World expansion includes a fifth faction of raiders that aim to conquer the entire Commonwealth. With five groups having opposing ideas, you can only pick one to stick to until the end, as choosing certain quests from each faction will cancel the future missions of the other.
